Lab. Safety Committee in a science college is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and healthy environment for students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and visitors. The committee identifies and assesses potential hazards in science laboratories, classrooms, workshops, chemical storage areas, electrical installations, and other campus facilities and recommends appropriate preventive measures. It ensures proper handling, storage, labelling, and disposal of chemicals, biological materials, laboratory waste, and other hazardous substances. The committee organizes fire-safety training, emergency drills, first-aid awareness, disaster-management programmes, and laboratory safety training. It also ensures the availability and proper maintenance of fire extinguishers, first-aid boxes, safety equipment, emergency exits, and warning signs. The committee promotes awareness about electrical safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), accident prevention, and emergency procedures. It maintains records of safety inspections, training programmes, accidents/incidents, corrective actions, and safety measures for institutional documentation and NAAC/quality-assurance purposes.
